Maps at the State Library of Victoria

Recently the State Library of Victoria has digitised over 500 Victorian maps. Over the coming months this figure will increase to several thousand. These will include the Victorian Parish maps, auction plans, and other major series of Victorian maps (early topographics, aerial surveys etc). The maps are out of copyright and can be freely downloaded in JPG and TIFF format. For more information visit the SLV Family Matters blog.

Victorian Crown Grantees Index (Parts 1 & 2) 1838 to the present day.

This index has been compiled by A.I.G.S. volunteers to assist researchers find if, when and where their ancestors were granted Crown land in Victoria. The names listed are those of the persons who are recorded as the first buyers or selectors of land from the Crown - hence the term 'Crown Grantee'. The names have been transcribed from Parish maps and schedules published by the previous Department of Survey and Mapping, this Department is now part of Land Victoria. Part 1 Index consisted of 67,000 names from 600 parishes; Part 2 is a database containing approx. 148,000 names extracted from 700 Parishes.
