Time to dig out your heirlooms!

There's still a few spots left for our "What's it worth?" valuation event, coming up this Saturday. Do you have a family heirloom? Ever wondered what it's worth? Have your old treasures valued by a professional with over 30 years experience. No watches, gold or jewellery. This session will be happening at Sam Merrifield Library on Saturday 22nd July, from 10am-12pm. A non-refundable fee of $5 per item (maximum of 2 items per person) can be paid online or in cash at any branch at the time of the booking. Bookings necessary - book online here .

National Family History Month is back for 2016! Happening in August, this national event aims to highlight and promote family history research. Along with getting research tips on how to find that long lost uncle, learn how to better tell your family story and present your findings to the world. Writing a non-boring family history

So you’ve done your family history research. How do you now present the results?  Hazel Edwards is a writer who also teaches others how to write.   In this presentation she shares her skills in shaping stories. She will also outline strategies for interviewing relatives, shaping anecdotes, not just listing dates, structuring and publishing. She will also look at a variety of formats such as e-stories, photographic and audio stories. This is a great opportunity to learn how to leave a lasting legacy for a younger generation. Preserve your collection at Flemington Library

Old and valuable photographs, letters and other objects fade and crumble over time. Find out how you can minimise this.  Debra Parry has gained extensive experience in preservation and conservation through her work at the National Archives of Australia, Heritage Victoria and the National Museum of Cambodia. In this presentation Debra will explain how materials deteriorate and how to minimise deterioration through appropriate storage handling and display. Family History Feast 2015

The State Library of Victoria's Family History Feast is back for another year. Celebrating it's 12th year, this free event offers great information for family historians. The theme for this year will be World War 1. With a wide range of speakers from the State Library, the Public Records Office of Victoria, the National Archives of Australia as well as lectures from historians, this look's to be a great day. Come along for a family history themed afternoon, including the first meeting of the new group, on Tuesday 12th August.
